APCG 2014 – Tucson, Arizona (September 24 - 27)

The School of Geography and Development, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Institute of the Environment, and the Southern Arizona Geographers Association at the University of Arizona are proud to host the 77th Annual APCG Meeting which will be held at the Tucson Marriott University Park in Tucson, Arizona on September 24th through 27th, 2014.

This year’s meeting will continue the tradition of scholarship, collegiality and friendship. Emmy award-winning media presenter on the world's deserts, David Yetman, will be our Wednesday night keynote Speaker. Eleven exciting field trips are planned for Thursday to help you explore diverse aspects of the Tucson area. Thursday evening’s annual social event is a Mexican Fiesta and ‘Night at the Museum’ at the Arizona State Historical Society, across the street from the Marriott. Formal paper sessions will be held on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th at the Marriott. We look forward to your participation. Remember that this is an excellent, friendly venue for undergraduates and graduates research presentations. The Saturday night Awards Banquet and Presidential Address will be held on campus, an easy walk from the hotel. There will be many other chances to network and socialize with colleagues, including the President' Reception and Poster Session on Friday, and the Women’s Network Luncheon on Saturday.

Inhabited since 2100 BC and with European settlement starting in 1775, Tucson, ‘The Old Pueblo’ has both an exciting cultural and extraordinary natural history. There are many opportunities to explore our area in addition to the field trips. Come early and stay late to enjoy the region’s offerings: hike in the Catalina, Tucson, Rincon, or Santa Rita mountains, bird watch in nearby Ramsey Canyon, explore Kartchner Caverns, experience a verisimilitude of the ‘old West’ at Old Tucson Studios, or, take a short trip to Mexico. Temperatures in September may still reach over 100 °F, so be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Be prepared for well air-conditioned interiors as well.

We look forward to seeing you in Tucson at the 2014 Association of Pacific Coast Geographers Annual Meeting.
