As a student in the Master’s in Development Practice program, Elena Ioli is intending to focus on global public health and education and development. She selected the MDP because of the interdisciplinary approach to the curriculum as well as the practice components. Elena's goal is to utilize education and development to improve health within international marginalized communities.
As an intern with the International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS in India, Elena was certified to teach HIV/AIDS prevention. Her curriculum included reducing stigma around HIV and HIV+ people. She also had the opportunity to work alongside a local LGBTQ+ community organization and local women’s groups within low income areas of Chennai. Over the last two years, Elena has been serving as Program Coordinator for the Eller College of Management’s Undergraduate Program's annual service-learning trip to Guatemala. As the program lead, Elena organizes and participates with the students in a weeklong cultural exchange where the group works alongside their Guatemalan peers with the shared goal of increasing access to education.
