James Cunningham

Instructional Designer

James helps coordinate and design educational activities, labs, and projects related to the GIST program. He also provides in-person and online teaching support for MSGIST classes. Additionally, James conducts general administrative duties, working closely with GIST staff to support students throughout their tenure with the program.

Prior to joining SGDE, James worked as a GIS specialist and researcher with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech, where he focused on improving transit equity. While a graduate student, he provided instructional support for several master’s level GIS courses. He also has experience as an Undergraduate Mentor with SGDE, helping students with course selection, internships, and finding post-graduate employment opportunities.

James holds a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, BA in Spanish and a MA in Geography from the University of Arizona. He also holds a MS in Geographic Information Science and Technology (MSGIST) from Georgia Tech.
