About Roy Petrakis

Researching the effect of land cover/land use change on water security in arid regions of North and South America.

1) Modeling habitat suitability for the endangered and threatened yellow-billed cuckoo in riparian areas of Arizona using multi-source GIS and remote sensing data sets

2) Mapping anthropogenic soil disturbances and modeling soil erosion potential in the Barry M. Goldwater Range in Southwestern Arizona for the United States Marine Corps

3) Studied the effect of Snow Water Equivalent on wildfire activity for the Sierra Nevada in California and produced a wildfire risk assessment map for the United States Forest Service

Research Interests

My research interests include ecosystem modeling, habitat modeling, land use/land cover change, spatial ecology,  remote sensing, GIS, water security and biogeography. My particular focus is dryland riparian ecosystems.
