Help us welcome Dr. Julia Green to present on Anthropogenic Climate Change
Abstract:
“Climate has long shaped the structure and function of Earth’s ecosystems, and ongoing anthropogenic climate change is expected to drive significant shifts in vegetation distribution and function. Because society depends on ecosystems for essential services, understanding how these systems may respond to future climate conditions is critical.
Addressing this challenge requires (1) identifying how climate currently constrains ecosystem distributions, (2) quantifying vegetation sensitivities to key environmental drivers, and (3) improving projections of future climate conditions. In this presentation, I synthesize three studies that contribute to this effort. The first examines observed and projected shifts in the distribution of tropical forests and savannas. The second investigates how dryland ecosystems respond to reduced water availability. The third constrains global projections of vegetated canopy temperatures under a future climate scenario.
Together, these studies advance our understanding of ecosystem–climate interactions and provide insights that can inform strategies to protect ecosystems and mitigate the impacts of climate change.”
This talk is free to attend and takes place in room S107 of the ENR2 building on Friday, October 30, 2026 from 3:30-5pm. All are welcome!
