On behalf of Dr. Jason Jurjevich....
Hi all,
First, a huge congratulations to Hannah Friedrich for successfully defending her dissertation, "The Covered: A Legal Geography of Uneven Hurricane Recovery and Insurance in Southwest Louisiana." Her innovative mixed-methods scholarship examines how people “turn to the law” to navigate insurance disputes after major disasters in the US, and how this shapes spatial inequalities in who recovers.
Hannah's committee included Beth Tellman as chair, along with Mark Kear, Jason Jurjevich, Laura Bakkensen (University of Oregon) and Alessandra Jerolleman (Loyola University New Orleans).
Hannah will start her postdoc at Cornell University in Natural Resources and the Environment, working on land-use management related to flood mitigation and habitat fragmentation in the Hudson Valley in New York.
Second, Hannah recently published one of her dissertation chapters, “Do Battle with Insurance”: Post-Hurricane Insurance Litigation in Southwest Louisiana" in RSF: The Russell Sage Foundation Journal for the Social Sciences. Co-authors include Beth Tellman, Jason Jurjevich, Mark Kear, and Laura Bakkensen.
Way to go, Hannah!
