SGD Colloquium: "Central" Places by Dr. Peter A. Rogerson

"Central" Places by Dr. Peter A. Rogerson

Abstract:
Centrality is a fundamental concept in geographical studies. Centers may be defined and applied in many ways; examples include population centroids (or centers of population) and geographic centers. For each, there are alternative definitions and methods of calculation. After a review of some of these alternatives and their history, application is made to some questions that arise in the study of historical populations in the northeastern United States.
