Emily Conrad completes Master’s thesis defense

Dear SGDE community, 

 

Join me in congratulating Emily Conrad for completing her master’s thesis defense yesterday. Her thesis is titled, “The Promise and Practice of Ecuador’s Rights-Based Water Regime: Administrative Translation of Constitutional Commitments to Indigenous Communities, Small Farmers, and Nature.” Her committee was me, Carl Bauer, and Margaret Wilder. 

 

The thesis analyzed new constitutional guarantees in the Ecuadoran constitution meant to strengthen community water rights. Her work showed that the story is more complicated and there are a lot of political, social and economic factors that make the realization of constitutional ideals difficult.
