At the 2019 University of Arizona Environment Showcase, a slideset was displayed highlighting environmental and climate research by MDP students related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The slideset was also subsequently displayed at the 2019 Envision Tucson Sustainable Festival.

The work was conducted during summer 2019 in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nepal in conjunction with the summer field practicums of MDP students Avery Julian Baker, Robert Hartwell, Jake Meyers, and Abdul Sigal.

The students received small grants  for research, collaboration, and engagement relating to the SDGs, supported by funding from the UA Research Office to School of Geography and Development Director Professor Diana Liverman.

As described by the UN, the SDGs are "the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The Goals interconnect and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve each Goal and target by 2030."
