Talia Anderson published in Weather Climate, and Society

Dec. 9, 2025

On behalf of Kevin J. Anchukaitis
Director and Professor, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research:

I am very pleased to share the latest article by Talia Anderson (with coauthors SGDE affiliate Zack Guido, Diego Pons, and Luis Tun), exploring the usability of climate information in Guatemala's Dry Corridor as part of an NSF funded project in Central America.

In this paper in Weather Climate, and Society, Talia found highly variable quality of seasonal climate forecasts across the region, with some marginal skill for some metrics. Just as important as these quality issues, however, was that forecasts reached very few farmers in the communities Talia studied. The findings from Talia's paper 'underscore the need for greater engagement and collaboration between forecast providers and end-users throughout the development and dissemination processes for seasonal forecasting to improve the quality and usability of climate information'.

Congratulations Talia and my personal thanks to Zack for joining the team and providing his unique expertise on climate services and climate information
