Kira Harris
Research Areas
I am a PhD student in the School of Geography, Development, and Environment, and I'm interested in how we can reconstruct land-ocean-atmosphere systems back in time. My research looks at the North American Monsoon in particular, and I use organic geochemical methods and marine sediments to investigate its history.
Alongside research, I have also worked with and developed virtual field experiences (VFEs). During my time as an Education and Outreach intern for the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center I helped develop the Virtual Ice Explorer in its beginning stages. Since then, I have also created a VFE of the organic geochemistry lab that I conducted my masters research in, as well as a virtual tour of the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research.
For more information about my research, or for a copy of my CV, check out my personal website.
I am also the Undergraduate Mentor for SGDE. I am available for undergraduate students to ask questions about potential class choices, opportunities on and off campus, as well as university-related resources. Feel free to reach out to me by email if you’d like to meet!
