Marv Waterstone

Professor Emeritus

I am a Marxist geographer, and my research and teaching focus on the Gramscian notions of hegemony and common sense, and their connections to social justice and progressive social change. I am also the former director the UA Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in Comparative Cultural and Literary Studies.  I currently co-teach a large hybrid (UA students and community members) course each spring with Professor Noam Chomsky, entitled “What is Politics?”

These are a few recent and upcoming publications:

Ian G.R. Shaw and Marv Waterstone, Wageless Life: A Manifesto for a Future Beyond Capitalism.  University of Minnesota Press, 2019.  Wageless Life: A Manifesto for a World beyond Capitalism

Noam Chomsky and Marv Waterstone, Consequences of Capitalism: Manufacturing Discontent and Resistance.  Chicago: Haymarket Books, forthcoming 2021.
