Research Areas
I am an Assistant Professor of Practice (career-track) teaching in the online GIST program. My research specializes in nature-society interactions and sustainability science. I am primarily interested in tropical forests and how their management impacts the well-being of people who live in that environment. My research draws heavily on remote sensing techniques and spatial modeling.
My dissertation was a study of the impacts of forest degradation in a wetland ecosystem of the Peruvian Amazon. This work aimed to understand the implications of carbon emissions from forest degradation and the reasons that different communities throughout the region opt to employ different forest management techniques.
I have a Master’s degree in Applied Geosciences from the University of Pennsylvania, and PhD in geography from Temple University.
