SGDE Associate Professor Stefano Bloch presents:
Advancing a Relational Ontology in Research and Writing
Abstract: I discuss the intellectual thread running through some of my current research and writing projects. I highlight how relational ontological thinking—the idea that people and places are shaped and reshaped through their material relationships and affective encounters—grounds my work on crime, gangs, and neighborhood change. By foregrounding the complexity of relations rather than the salience of fixed categories, I challenge the rehearsed narratives that academics too often rely on to discuss place-based identities.
This talk is free to attend and takes place in room S107 of the ENR2 building on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 3:30-5pm. All are welcome!
