Congratulations to our Spring 2026 SGDE Photo Contest Winners!
2026 SGDE Photo Competition theme: PEOPLE/LANDSCAPES
Description: Within SGDE we study landscapes, people, and how they shape one another in physical, cultural, socio-economic, or ecological ways. This competition is focused on photography that captures some aspect of the relationships between people & landscape whether it be from our campus community or from a far corner of the world. There are three broad categories: (i) the socio-cultural landscape, (ii) landscapes of human environment interactions, and (iii) the urban environment.
An award committee evaluated the images based on three criteria: 1. Creativity 2. Photographic quality and 3. Interpretation of the theme.

Second Place ($150)
Peter Meyerson - Major: Design Arts and Practices-Spatial Design
Title: Under the Bridge
Year: 2026
City/Country: Tucson, Arizona
Description: The streets have long been a symbol of democracy as they transform from transportation vessels into a space where people can gather and voice their concerns. And I think protests in the streets are more important today than ever since they extract those phantom voices you see online and concentrates them into a single space. It is then you see the sheer number of people who stand with you, but more importantly, it is when you see that we aren’t just opinions with a profile picture. We are humans.
