Two SGD PhD Students, Melanie Colavito and Lily House-Peters, were awarded the 2015 Louise Foucar Marshall Foundation Graduate Fellowship to complete their dissertation work next year. The Marshall Fellowship provides funding and tuition for two semesters to PhD students who will complete their dissertation the same year. Congratulations, Melanie and Lily!

Congratulations to SGD Professor Diana Liverman who was recently awarded the Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers (CLAG’s) 2015 Carl O. Sauer Distinguished Scholarship Award. The award will be presented in May 2015 at the CLAG meeting in Fortaleza. Diana was nominated for the award by six of her former PhD students. Well done, Diana!

SGD professor Wim van Leeuwen is part of a major new collaboratively project with researchers at Texas A&M and others to study woody plant encroachment. SGD PhD student Bhuwan Thapa and SGD Professor Chris Scott, along with co-author Robert Varady, have a new publication entitled, "Measuring Water Security: An Assessment of the 2013 Asian Development Bank Outlook National Water Security Index". The article was published in the Journal of the Institution of Environmental Sciences! Good work!
