Congratulations go out to Diana Liverman who was recognized with the Carl O. Sauer Distinguished Scholarship Award at the Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers (CLAG) recent conference in New Orleans.  It was awarded previously but Diana was only able to attend the recent meeting to accept the award.

Kudos to Kara Tanoue who has been awarded the SBSRI Pre-doctoral Grant Award for a SNAP retailer access study in rural communities. Here are some of the reviewers’ comments “Truly outstanding. The research has good theoretical foundations. I could absolutely see this research affecting government policy and the policy of NGOs and food sellers”.

The Institute of the Environment website recently had a lead item featuring the work of many geographers—a special issue on the METRICS OF WATER SECURITY AND ADAPTIVE CAPACITY.  The result of the two-year project is a special issue on Metrics, guest edited by Gregg Garfin, Margaret Wilder, and Robert Merideth, and published online in Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability, comprised of 14 articles by 37 authors in 12 countries.
